hi everyone who actually bothers to read these. i'm doing pretty well, it's feeling like summer and getting annoyingly warm up here in canada. chewie bird is molting so my apartment floor is covered in a thin layer of fluffy green feathers...i need to vacuum. i just got a raise and a year-long contact at work! huzzah, barbie loves me. hahaha i likes money to do things which are actually kinda fun. and tonight i shall be going out to a goth club because dressing up is fun. all in all, yay life!

it's true, i live! my job is still awesome (also still hilariously barbielicious) and i'm starting to form friendships at work. i am also feeling super alive because i found this russian lady who is a doctor of chinese medicine. she's using ancient chinese magic to cure my allergies!!! it's crazy, but it actually works. it's amazing. emily, you must do this. like, seriously.

so, i did so well in my job that they promoted me. woo promotion! i'm now a production coordinator on a couple animated barbie movies. (here's where you laugh) ayup. barbie pays my rent. hehe. someone at school should tell amy lieberman. i know she'd love it, whereas most of the rest of scripps would scold me for endorsing "the man," in this case, "the man" is a false plastic ideal in a pink gown :D
but a raise means i can afford rent! and i found a perfect little apartment 2 blocks away from work. AND the owner is a really nice woman who told me to paint it and she'd reimburse me for the costs, as it'll "add tot he value of the suite." how awesome is that? so yeah, i move in on dec 1st. i may not have internet for a while after that as i'll need to set up internet and i know it'll turn into one of those things i'm meaning to get to, but work and life will be a priority.
and last bit of news, i met a guy. his name is matt :) he took me to a gabriel & dresden concert. if you know who that is, you're just as excited as i was.

all in all, a lot has happened in my life recently. all good things! though i do miss my california people.

so that french place i was working at got bought out by japanese business men. weird. so instead of working there for the past couple months i've been blowing glass, getting my bartending certifications, working in a new and different restaurant, bartending a persian wedding reception, and visiting/receiving visits from many many lovely people. it's been busy, but i've loved it all. and now for the long weekend i'm going to go see the new glass blowing studio/gallery my boss opened up in tofino. also, i will have the opportunity to surf...part of me thinks this sounds awesome, the other part is saying "you know you're going to fall on your face into the water." anyone who reads this, ever surfed before? should i do it? do you wanna hear about me falling on my face?

tonight was my first night working at the fancy french restaurant. apparently, frenchmen are dicks. they say frenchmen are supposed to be dicks and you think it's just a stereotype, but no. it's very true. dicks. the lot of them. despite this, i think i'm going to like working there, as half the staff is canadian (thus nice) and the other half is all frenchmen (thus dicks). they didn't really train me before dinner started, they just showed me where about a third of everything was stored. so i had to figure out a lot on my own. fuckin frenchmen.

tomorrow i get to blow glass with Sol, my native south american glass man. i have one french boss and one south american boss. go canada go.

back "home" again. thought it doesn't feel quite as expected. it feels more like a city i'm just driving through, like all the ones i passed on my way up here. i like vancouver, and i'm pretty sure i want to end up here in my later years, but i don't think i'm ready to settle here just now. i kinda don't want to unpack everything :P

i'll go talk to Sol (glass blowing guy) and look for another job/apprenticeship sculpting props and masks for movies, maybe find an apartment, then see if i still feel the same way i do now

all that's standing between me and graduation/leaving this place are several smallish papers and a ceremony. almost free...i can taste it. then back to my homeland, which i love, and by the way all of you are invited to come visit me. just let me know ahead of time and in exchange i will give you directions :D my glass blowing boss called and asked me to come work again this summer, so that's awesome.
also, this should be a fun weekend (parties and socializing and the like). time to enjoy college :) cause i won't have this at my fingertips for much longer. which sin shall i dress up as tonight...hmm

why have i majored in sculpture? i love clay and i know the ceramics program at scripps is amazing, but it takes so very long to make anything that's actually cool. this is why i love working in glass, it only takes about an hour to make something that looks like this http://www.solmaya.com/DtlBumbershoot.htm

home is all rainy, but it's still better than LA. it's good to see my sister and her fiance (stefan) again. dad's being cool too. but mom...well she's acting like a child and demanding attention and moping, becasue apparently she's in competition with me and my sister for my dad's and stefan's attantion. oh mom. when will you stop being a drama queen?
i love vancouver. i really do. when i move back here after i graduate and get a place of my own, i will be pretty happy. it's an amazing city, with a great artist community for me to fully get into.

so the claremont concert choir and concert orchestra just performed the Mozart Requiem at midnight on monday december 4th, the anniversary of his birth (not death, but whatever) and guess who had the soprano solos: yup, me :) i got to dress up all fancy and sing in the huge garrison performance hall with a choir and full orchestra behind me. and you know what? the music staff forgot to record the damned thing. so i have no audio recording of the one time in my life i will ever do a big fancy performance like that. so sad, so sad...

but it's exam week now and that means the semester is almost done. so i'll be headed home for holiday meals and SNOW, yay snow! if anyone wants to come chill (heh) in vancouver with me over the break, feel free to come visit :) you'll just need a passport to get over the boarder.

it's official. i am "one of those" people. i made a facebook profile and an email address for my bird. that's right, Chewie's on facebook. within 6 hours of being there, he had a request to be in a relationship from a scripps frosh who'd met him once. go chewie.

thesis needs to stop making me a crazy person. good thing it's due monday. huzzah!

a number of my friends who have been very important to me at some point in my life have recently decided they hate me. the past week has been full of emotionally draining conversations followed by "i'm not your friend anymore." is there some sort of conspiracy i am unaware of? the timing of it all is suspicious.

now if you'll excuse me, i need to go meet new people as my friends seem to be dwindling in numbers

yesterday was reid's 21st birthday, and it's my mummy's birthday today! i did have to go in to the glass studio though, but Sol invited her there too and i assisted him in making a really cool bowl-ish piece for her as a gift :) i'll take and post a picture in my lj when it comes out of the big glass art oven/cooler thingy. learning how to blow glass is so very fun and awesome. this summer is pretty cool so far

i do have a lack of love at the moment though, le sigh

Last month I ruled Iran as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points). Last Friday I ate my brussel sprouts (1 points). Last Monday I gave change to a homeless guy (19 points). Last week I pushed la_licorne in the mud (-17 points). Last Saturday I helped persephonebitch see the light (8 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-689 points). For Christmas I deserve a spanking!

spring break is almost here! and it shall be appreciated, oh, will it ever. a few days ago i hit that wall which physically prevents me from doing any work :D i mean, i can do the readings and study and everything, i just can't produce an essay or anything in clay. it's a fun feeling and it's probably a psychological issue, but whatever, break soon.. only a few exams and performances standing in my way. if anyone is interested, Midnight Echo snack concert (frary steps down on pomona) on thursday night at 10:45pm. i have solos :) and will be wearing silly pants..pants...
i'm going to santa barbara for break, should be a fun drunken shindig :) don't know what i'm going to do with my bird though...maybe i should figure that out. yup. i should. :D

in conclusion: snuggles are amazing and clay feels like squishy dirt
